Paul Blackwell

I'm a producer, engineer, and guitarist and have been making records for over 15 years. I've played guitar with Shilpa Ray, Pink Mexico, The Lovinas, The Toothe, and others, and toured the US, Canada, and Europe.

In August 2024, my wife and I moved from Ridgewood, Queens to Carrboro, North Carolina. I lived in New York for a decade and worked independently out of Studio G Brooklyn in Greenpoint, as well as out of my room at SciLabs in Ridgewood, Queens.

In North Carolina I'm currently working out of Nightsound Studios, Manifold Recording, and Sonark Media. All three studios are excellent and are an integral part of my process.

I love being immersed in sound and the feeling of a live take coming together around me, and my favorite project is always the one I'm working on.

When it comes to production, I like being involved early in the process - from writing and demoing, to tracking and overdubbing,  through mixing and mastering. I have an ear for melody, harmony, and arrangement, and love to help in the creative process. I love recording to analog tape whenever possible, whether it's on a 2" machine at Studio G or on a cassette tape on my Tascam Portastudio.
